Pinna – Catherine A., 102, Johnstown, died Jan. 25, 2012, at Arbutus Manor.

Born Sept. 16, 1909, in Sardegna, Italy, daughter of Pasqualino and Gavina L. (Scarpa) Chessa.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Joseph; grandson, John Verhovsek; and four brothers.  Survived by children, Lena, married to Henry Verhovsek, Johnstown; Raymond, married to Joan (Younker), Virginia; and John, married to Harriet (Fleck), Johnstown; grandchildren, Gary Verhovsek, married to Kate (Mikula); David Pinna, married to Gennett (Manjestu); Jolene (Pinna), married to Mark Jeune; and Jean Hucks, companion of Fernando Azevedo; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Logan McGowan; Crystal Fanton; Amanda, married to Wade Shank; Freddie Azevedo; and Christine and Brandon Jeune; and great-great-grandchildren, Owen and Ethan Fanton and Nevaeh and Jason Shunk, all from Virginia; Livingston Muir, Maryland; and Kira and Ian Verhovsek, Johnstown.

Catherine was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She was an excellent cook and baker, especially her homemade bread that she was able to continue making until age 95. 

She also was a devoted Catholic and member of St. Clare of Assisi Parish, formerly St. Anthony Catholic Church, where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, Father Adrian Tirpak, TOR.

Friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, at Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd., Johnstown.  Interment, St. Anthony Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Clare of Assisi Building Fund or Arbutus Park Manor.
